The history of Le Château de Rhodes
The history of the land beneath Château de Rhodes stretches back into the Middle Ages, echoing with powerful figures:
- Medieval Roots: The estate was once the Domaine of Isabelle de Foix in 1402.
- Aristocratic Residence: Following this, the castle became the property of Jean-Louis de Narbonne until the 18th century.
- Rebirth in Stone: The structure you see today largely dates from a beautiful château built in 1761, which was then vastly extended in 1861. For generations, it served as the residence for a powerful and aristocratic family in the Ariège.
This incredible building has witnessed revolutions, seen the passage of nobles, and stood proudly watching over the wild, unspoiled beauty of the Ariège department.
David and Hiroko Sindell: A Return to Their Passion
The current chapter of Le Château de Rhodes is being written by David and Hiroko Sindell. Their story with this château is unique: they are not new proprietors, but passionate returnees.
The Sindells were the dedicated owners of Le Château de Rhodes prior to 2006. Having fallen in love with the château and the captivating beauty of the Ariège region, they are now thrilled to be back at the helm since 2018.
