From the nearest international airport – Toulouse–Blagnac Airport (TLS)

By car (recommended)

  • Distance: 118 km
  • Travel time: 1 hour 24 minutes
  • Route 1: (more simple)
    1. Leave Toulouse–Blagnac Airport and join the A620.
    2. Follow signs for A61/A66 toward Foix.
    3. Continue on the N20 toward Foix.
    4. Take Exit 10 for Foix/Tarbes/St Girons/Zone Permilhac
    5. Follow signs for the D919 and D117
    6. From Foix, take the D117 toward La Bastide-de-Sérou.
    7. Turn right onto D49
    8. The Chateau entrance will be on the right (there is a sign for Chateau de Rhodes at the entrance)

OR

  • Distance: 112 km
  • Travel time: 1 hour 18 minutes

Route 2: (6 minutes faster, but windy and narrow)

    1. Leave Toulouse–Blagnac Airport and join the A620. 
    2. Follow signs for A61/A66 toward Foix. 
    3. Continue on the N20 toward Foix. 
    4. Take exit 9 toward St Jean de Verges / Centre Hospitalier
    5. At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto D624 heading to St Jean de V./Crampagne
    6. Turn right onto Rte de Crampagna / D31A
    7. Turn right onto Rue Vall. de la Lèze / D919
    8. Turn left onto Rival et Barral / D11 (signs for Baulou/La Bastide de Sérou)
    9. Turn right onto D117 (signs for Tarbes/St Girons/La Bastide de Sérou)
    10. Turn right onto D49
    11. The Chateau entrance will be on the right (there is a sign for Chateau de Rhodes at the entrance)

Route 2 is 5 minutes faster, but the road is narrow and windy as you approach the Chateau so please plan accordingly. Route 1 is strongly advised if you are arriving at night or if you have a large vehicle.

 

By public transport

  • Tram to Toulouse Matabiau railway station.
  • TER Train from Toulouse Matabiau to Foix.
  • Taxi from Foix to the Chateau (taxi’s are very limited in the region so please plan ahead if taking public transportation).


Important Route Notes

  • A rental car is strongly recommended, especially for groups staying at the château, as public transport in the Ariège countryside is limited.
  • The château is located about 3 km from the village of La Bastide-de-Sérou, where visitors will find a supermarket, bakery, butcher, pharmacy, post office, medical centre, and tourist office.
